There are SIX steps to the NCPD

Hiring Process. A thorough background check is conducted during the process, and begins when your application is first received. 

STEP 1

Application

Complete an application via the City of

North Charleston Human Resources portal.

STEP 2

Guardian

You will be sent an invite to our Guardian System, where you will complete a detailed Personal History Questionnaire. (This is where you list your references, all jobs held, etc.)

STEP 3

Testing

Complete the Police Officer Standards Test (POST), and Physical Agilities Test (PAT). 

STEP 4

Polygraph

A polygraph will be administered by an agency approved polygrapher.

STEP 5

Interview

​

Executive Staff interview with the Chief, Assistance Chief, Associate and Deputy Chief's.

STEP 6

Medical

​

A physical examination, psychological examination, and drug test will be administered.

​

​

​

Upon successfully completing all six steps, you will be given a start date.
