About Us

History of the NCPD
The City of North Charleston was incorporated on June 12, 1972, and shortly thereafter hired their first police officer, Chief Roger Poston. On April 1, 1973, the first 19 officers took to the streets of North Charleston, taking over area that had previously been patrolled by the Charleston County Police Department. Since that time the North Charleston Police Department has grown to 315 officers across three Bureaus (North, Central, & South).
The NCPD Today
Today the City of North Charleston is the third largest city in the State of South Carolina, and the NCPD is one of the largest agencies in the state.
