Patrolman
Robert Anthony "Tony" Way
EOW February 18, 1985
Patrolman Way and another officer responded to a burglary alarm at a local business. Upon arrival, Patrolman Way pursued the suspect on foot to the rear of the building where he was ambushed by the suspect. During an exchange of gunfire, Patrolman Way was mortally wounded. He returned fire, fatally striking the suspect several times.

Patrolman Way had previously served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, following in the footsteps of his father who retired as a Sergeant with the Patrol. He left behind a wife, Audrey and a one year old son.

In 2024, his son graduated from Basic Detention at the South Carolina Criminal Academy and serves as a Transport Officer.

"Pay The Preacher"

NCPD Horse Patrol Officer "Pay The Preacher", a 12-year-old gelding suffered an aneurysm after being struck by a fleeing vehicle. Patrolman Robert Gordon was injured when the horse fell. "Preacher" had served with the NCPD since March 1982.

K-9 Mojo​

EOW February 15, 2018
K-9 Mojo was killed in a vehicle collision when his handler's patrol car collided with another vehicle that had turned in front of them while running code to an emergency. Mojo's handler was injured during the collision but recovered. The driver who caused the collision was charged with felony DUI.
